Child Login Set Up

Ready to set up Child Login? You're in the right place!

The Four Steps

Setting up Child Login involves a few steps, but don’t worry—we’ve broken it down into four clear stages to guide you through. Use the buttons below to follow the setup journey at your own pace, with tutorials and resources to help at each stage.

How the setup fits together

This flowchart shows the steps involved in setting up Child Login for a group of children. You’ll see how to create a login page, choose your device setup, and decide how children will log in—whether that’s using a QR code, a magic link, or four magic words.

Set Up Your Login Pages

Once you have enabled Tapestry’s Child Login feature, you can start setting up groups of children to use it. If this is your first time using Child Login, we recommend you start by reviewing children’s user permissions, which can be found in Control Panel > User Permissions > Children.

Then you can go ahead and create your first group login page!

Children will use a group login page to gain access to their Tapestry accounts independently. You can personalise these pages with a profile picture, and choose how the children’s names will display.

When a child logs in, they will able to recognise their class group and select their profile from the list that appears.

The tutorial below will take you through the steps of creating a group login page.

Passwords and Devices

Tapestry lets you generate passwords for children in a few different areas, but it’s easiest to do this when setting up a group login page. If any children in the group don’t yet have passwords, Tapestry will let you know and give you the option to generate and download them.

As part of the password generation process, you will be asked to choose a password policy. If you’d like some guidance on which one to choose, take a look at this post here.

The tutorial below highlights all the places where you can generate or reset children’s passwords.

Now it’s time to choose where your group login page will display. If this is your first time setting up Child Login, then you can enable the group login page on just the one computer to start with and give access to other devices later.
Tapestry provides a number of ways that children can access their group login page on other devices, such as via a QR code that you can print out to put around your classroom. The tutorial below goes over the different options in more detail.

Use Child Login At School

Now you can start using Child Login during lessons. You can either print out the QR code for children to scan on handheld devices, email yourself a link so they can access it on another computer, or use four magic words which allows children to log in from the main Tapestry log in screen on any other device.
If a child can’t find themselves in the group, or the group isn’t showing up, use our troubleshooting guide below.

Children will see a simplified version of Tapestry when they log in. They will be able to add their own observations and respond to activities set for them.
We have some tutorials specifically for them, which you can access below.

Use Child Login At Home

If you’re setting children work or activities that they can do at home, you can give them access to their Tapestry accounts at home too.

Children access their Tapestry profiles via their parent or carer’s account, so you will need to make sure children have relative users who are set up and linked to them first.

And that’s it! You’ve now successfully set up Child Login on your account so children can access Tapestry independently.

If you ever want to remove access to group login pages, you just need to follow the steps in the tutorial below.
