Tag your observations

With the updated EYFS framework in 2021 Tapestry introduced the Flags feature. You can use the EYFS flags to tag observations that relate to specific areas of learning (and aspects if using the Birth to 5 matters document).

This creates a bank of observations to refer back to that can be sorted and selected as required. As well as this, these observations will feed through to the monitoring screens we created to work alongside the flags.

Understanding the EYFS on Tapestry

We’ve written this post to help you get the most from the EYFS flag set on your account. Explore how and why it was added to Tapestry, and discover how it can support you in monitoring children’s progress.

Monitoring developmental progress

We created two types of monitoring screens to work in conjunction with the EYFS flag set on Tapestry: the Thoroughness screens and the ‘Areas of Concern’ section.

The Thoroughness screens allow you to quickly see how many observations in specific areas or for specific children have been added to your account.

Our ‘Areas of Concern’ section allows you to easily refer to observations you’ve made for each child in each Area of Learning and record whether you have any concerns about their development and the provision you have put in place for them.

Take a look at the tutorials linked below to see how to use these screens on Tapestry.

ELG Framework

In the Summer Term, you might want to start adding ELG assessments to your children's observations, and assess whether you think they are Emerging or Expected, in preparation for their EYFSP. You can enable this in Control Panel > Settings > Assessments.

ELG Flag Set

Use the ELG flags to make a note of which ELGs an observation relates to. This can help with collating your observations so that you can quickly refer back to them when you are considering your judgements. Note that only the ELG framework will inform the EYFSP report.

EYFSP

All observations assessed with the ELG framework will feed into the EYFSP Submission screen. The GLD screen will show the percentage of children assessed as Expected in the three prime ELGs, and Literacy and Maths.
