In this tutorial we’re going to look at your child’s About Me page on Tapestry — a page of questions chosen by your child’s setting (their school, nursery or childminder) where the setting, and possibly you, can record the little details that help everyone get to know your child: who lives at home, favourite books, what comforts them, and so on. Depending on what your child’s setting has enabled, you’ll be able to read the page, and you may be able to fill in and edit the answers too.

Your child’s setting decides, child by child, whether relatives can see the About Me page and whether they can edit it. If you can’t find it, or you can see it but not edit it, please speak to your child’s setting — the Tapestry support team aren’t able to change these settings for you.

About Me is a browser feature, so you’ll need to be logged in to Tapestry at tapestryjournal.com rather than using the app.

Finding your child's About Me

Once you’re logged in, click Children’s Profiles in the menu on the left. If you’re linked to just one child, the menu shows their name instead e.g. Abby’s Profile, and clicking it takes you straight to their profile.

A list of the children you’re linked to slides out — click the name of the child you would like to view.

If you see Enrolling next to your child’s name, they haven’t been made fully active on Tapestry yet, so only some features are available for them — but you can still open their profile and their About Me.

Your child’s profile page opens. Look for the Quick Links panel on the right and click About Me.

Reading the About Me page

The About Me page lists every question your child’s setting has chosen, grouped into sections — scroll down to see them all. Where an answer has been filled in it appears in a handwriting-style font beside the question, so answers are easy to tell apart from the questions themselves; a question nobody has answered yet simply shows a blank space.

At the top of the page you’ll find Export, which creates a PDF of the whole page and opens it in a new tab — handy if you’d like a copy to keep or print. If your child’s setting has allowed you to edit the page, you’ll also see an Edit About … button carrying your child’s name — Edit About Abby in our example.

Filling in and editing the answers

Click Edit About Abby (you’ll see your own child’s name) and every question appears with a box underneath it for the answer. Type into any of the boxes — you can add an answer where there isn’t one yet, or change what’s already there. All the answers are free text, so just write whatever would be helpful for your child’s setting to know.

When you’ve finished, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save. You’ll be taken back to the About Me page, where a message confirms the details have been saved and your answers now appear beside their questions.

Click Save at the bottom of the page.

Do bear in mind that after saving changes to About Me staff and any other relatives linked to your child will receive a notification that the page has been updated.

And that’s it! You’ve found your child’s About Me from their profile’s Quick Links, read the answers, exported a copy, and — where your setting allows it — filled in your own answers and saved them.
