Setting a Password Policy

Tapestry allows managers to set their own rules in regards to password security i.e. the minimum number of characters and whether different cases/special characters are compulsory. This tutorial will show you how to edit your preferences regarding that.

It’s really important to set a strong and secure password for your Tapestry account and that you don’t share your password with other staff members on your account. Setting a strong password policy is one of the ways you can make sure each user is setting a secure password on their account too.

Please note that only users registered on Tapestry as Managers are able to amend password settings as access to the Configuration page is needed.

In order to set a password policy navigate to Configuration > Settings > Password Policy & MFA

As a default, the staff and relative policies will be set to a minimum length of 12 characters. In order to change the minimum standards select the relevant option for Staff or Relatives.

There is also a link to the UK government’s advice on strong passwords, which you can refer to before setting your policy.

After you select to change the minimum standards for either staff or relatives, you then have a choice of choosing a pre-set Weak, Better or Strong password policy, or creating your own Custom policy. We would really recommend either choosing the Strong option or setting your own strong Custom policy.

If you select the custom option then you can configure your own password requirements using the fields below.

Select Save at the foot of the screen once you have set your password requirements. If you make any changes then new passwords will have to meet the new criteria set, but current passwords won’t change to fall in line with your new preferences.

And that’s it. If you’d like to enable Multi-Factor Authentication on your account then you can follow the link below. For details about how to set your own notification preferences, follow that link instead.
