How to check if your device can run the new Tapestry app

  • October 1, 2025
  • By Olaya

Due to technical updates we will soon have to raise the minimum iOS requirements for Apple devices. We aren’t sure when exactly but it will likely be in the coming few months. The new minimum requirement is now iOS 16.

If your device is running iOS 15.6 or above and can’t be updated to iOS 16 or above, you will still be able to use Tapestry via the app or browser, but you will not receive any further updates. These updates may include new functionality, bug fixes, security updates etc.

If you are still using any of the following devices, you are not able to upgrade to iOS 16 due to the age of the device; you may want to consider replacing them as soon as possible. The devices are:

  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 6S
  • the original iPhone SE
  • iPad Mini 4
  • iPad air 2.

You can check your device’s current iOS version from Settings > General > Software Update.

If you are going to replace your devices with newer ones, we recommend ones that can use iOS 16 as a minimum – but the more recent the better.

Pressed for time? Here’s a quick summary

The new Tapestry app requires iOS 15.6+ or Android 8+ (including Fire OS 7+)

  • If your device is already on these versions, you are all set.
  • If you are on a lower version, you’ll need to update your operating system.
  • If your device cannot update to the minimum requirements, you’ll need to source an alternative device.
  • We’ll walk you step by step through how to check if your device can run the new app. The examples use the most popular devices, but the process will be nearly identical for others, too.

Without meeting the requirements, Tapestry won’t work – even in a browser – because Apple and Google have stopped supporting older operating systems. Once support ends, devices no longer receive security fixes or updates, which makes them vulnerable and prevents apps like Tapestry from staying compatible.

Check your software version in Settings, update if possible, and ensure your device is ready. If updates aren’t available, you might need to consider sourcing new devices to keep using Tapestry.

The new Tapestry app is here! This companion to the refreshed Tapestry look we launched in September 2025 is designed to make your experience more consistent, intuitive, and enjoyable—whether you’re on a phone, tablet, or computer.

Our new app not only mirrors the look and feel of the browser version, creating a seamless experience across all your devices, but it also opens the door to exciting new features that will make Tapestry an even more valuable tool for you.

With a new app comes updated minimum device and operating system requirements. To run the new Tapestry app, your device needs to meet the following:

  • iOS: 15.6 or higher
  • Android: 8 or higher
  • Amazon Fire: 7 or higher (please see note in the next section)

Important: Devices that do not meet these minimum requirements may still let you log in to Tapestry via a browser, but you will not be able to use it. This means that without meeting these requirements, you won’t be able to use Tapestry effectively on your device, regardless of whether you wish to use the app or stick with the browser version.

What do the minimum requirements for the new Tapestry app mean for you?

If your device is already running on either of the above operating systems, you are good to go!

However, if you are running on:

  • iOS 13–15.5: You’ll need to update to iOS 15 or higher to keep using Tapestry.
  • iOS 12 or below (or if your device can’t update): You’ll need a newer device.
  • Android 7 or below: You’ll need to update to Android 8 or higher—or consider a newer device if updates aren’t available.
  • Amazon Fire on OS 7:
    • Devices running OS 7 on 9th–11th generation hardware can still download the app, but you may notice reduced performance.
    • For the best experience, we recommend using OS 8 or higher on 12th generation devices or newer.

We know this can feel frustrating, especially if your current device is still working fine. These changes are necessary because Apple and Google no longer support older operating systems. Without these updates, devices stop receiving essential security fixes, and apps—including Tapestry—cannot guarantee your data stays safe. By aligning with these support limits, we make sure Tapestry remains secure, reliable, and ready for new features.

To make it a bit easier for you in case you find yourself having to source new devices, we’ve put together a list of lower-cost device options.

Our goal with this post is to guide you step by step, so you can:

  • Check your current operating system
  • Check for any available updates
  • Determine whether your device is ready for the new app, or if you’ll need to source an alternative

Check if your Apple, Samsung, Pixel, Lenovo or Amazon Fire device can run the new Tapestry app

1. Check your current iOS version:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Tap General > About
  • Look for Software Version – this is your current iOS version

2. Compare with the minimum requirement:

  • The new Tapestry app requires iOS 15.6 or higher
  • If your version is iOS 15.6 or higher, you are all set!
  • If your version is lower, continue to step 3

3. Check for updates:

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Updates
  • If an update is available, tap Download and Install
  • Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi and has enough battery

4. If no updates are available:

  • Your device may be too old to support iOS 15.6
  • Unfortunately, you’ll need a newer device to use the new app

3. Check for updates
  • Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install
  • If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions
  • Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi and has enough battery
4. If no updates are available:

  • Unfortunately, you’ll need a newer device to use the new app

4. If no updates are available:

  • If the device is below Android 8 and cannot update, or there are no higher updates available, you’ll need a newer device to use the new Tapestry app

1. Check your current Fire OS version:

  • Open Settings > Device Options > System Updates
  • Your Fire OS version will be listed

2. Compare with the minimum requirement:

  • Fire OS is based on Android; the new Tapestry app generally requires Fire OS 7 or higher (Android 8+ equivalent). This is because, if your Fire is on OS 7 or higher, the Tapestry app will work, as Fire OS 7 is equivalent to Android 8, our minimum requirement.
  • If your version is Fire OS 7 or higher, you’re all set!*
  • If your version is lower, continue to step 3

3. Update your Fire tablet:

  • Settings > Device Options > System Updates > Check Now
  • Follow prompts if an update is available
  • Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi and has enough battery

4. If no updates are available:

  • Older Fire tablets may not support the new app. You’ll need a newer device

*Note: Devices running OS 7 on 9th–11th generation hardware can still download the app, but you may notice reduced performance. For the best experience, we recommend using OS 8 or higher on 12th generation devices or newer.

Remember: devices that do not meet the minimum requirements will not be able to use Tapestry, even in a browser.
