This tutorial explains how managers can set the default notification preferences for all users on a Tapestry package. The default preferences apply to new users and those who have not manually changed their own preferences. You will need to reset the preferences, as shown later in this tutorial, to update the notification preferences for any users that have previously updated their own.

Individual users can still update their own preferences by following our tutorial on setting your own notification preferences. In addition, if users want to receive push notifications, they must enable this on their own device as shown here.

A manager will need to be logged in on a browser to access these settings.

Setting default preferences

To set default notification settings, go to Configuration→ Notifications.

Before choosing notification preferences, check that staff and relatives are allowed to receive notifications. To do this, select Permissions in the yellow message box at the top of the Notifications page. For more information on setting permissions please take a look here.

The first section is the default settings area, broken down into each user type. As a reminder, any changes made here only affect users who have not already changed their own notification preferences. These settings will also apply to any new users you add. Click on a user type to see the different notifications they may receive and the preferences.

For each notification type, choose how users should be notified. The available options are:

  • Disabled: users will not receive email notifications, nor internal notifications.
  • Internal: users will not receive email notifications. They will only receive internal notifications – a marker next to the notification bell when they log in to Tapestry.
  • Immediate Email: users will receive an immediate email for every event + internal bell notification.
  • Daily Email: users will receive one email every 24 hours containing all relevant events + internal bell notification.
  • Weekly Email: users will receive one email every 7 days containing all relevant events + internal bell notification.

If a user has enabled push notifications from their device then email notifications will be sent as a push notification instead, e.g., an immediate email will instead become an immediate push notification, daily email a daily push notification, etc.

Most event types include the five options, although some may offer fewer choices. PIN-only staff can only receive internal notifications or have notifications disabled because their logins do not have email addresses attached.

When you are happy with the default settings, select Save at the foot of the page.

Resetting user's preferences

As mentioned previously, saving the new default notification preferences will not change the preferences of those that have previously amended their own. So if you want to override those users’ notification preferences to the new defaults, you can reset theirs at the bottom of the page.

From the drop-down, select which user type you’d like to reset notification for and then click on Reset.

And that’s it! If you require any further help with notifications on Tapestry you can reach out to the team at customer.service@eyfs.info.
