Introducing the Tapestry New Look
A refreshed design is here, built to make Tapestry work even better for you.
Screen readers: Welcome to our fresh new look! This animation shows the previous Tapestry design being crafted into the new Tapestry design. Hands appear throughout the animation to push or pull elements of the screen into their new positions, as well as paint and build parts of it. The navigation menu for Tapestry’s new look is now on the left hand side of the screen, and our colours have changed from blue to aubergine purple.

What to Expect
Easier Navigation, Same Tapestry
We’ve reorganised key areas so the tools you use most are quicker to find and simpler to access. What you do in Tapestry isn’t changing, though; it’ll just be easier to get around!
Built for Future Growth
Tapestry is continuously evolving, and this updated layout gives us space to grow with you. New features can now fit in logically— without adding complexity.
Consistent Across Devices
The refreshed design works seamlessly whether you’re on desktop or mobile. The app now looks and feels much more like the browser version, making the whole experience more consistent and easier to use.
A Fresh, Neutral Design
The new design brings a more modern, neutral feel that suits the variety of schools and settings using Tapestry. It’s a visual refresh, but everything still works just as simply and efficiently as before.

General information about the new look
What is changing?
The main change you’ll notice is the navigation menu. It’s moving from the top of the screen to the left-hand side.
This update has been thoughtfully designed to make accessing key features more intuitive and to allow for new tools to be introduced without adding complexity.
Why are you updating Tapestry’s design?
This thoughtful, award-winning redesign is aimed at making your experience smoother and more consistent, while laying the groundwork for new features in the future.
When will the new Tapestry look go live?
The updated design is available now!
For a little while, you’ll be able to switch between the current and new designs, giving educators and families time to adjust.
Can I switch back to the old Tapestry?
Yes. For the first few weeks, you’ll be able to switch between the old and new versions. After that, everyone will move permanently to the new design.
We’re starting a phased rollout from the 11th of February 2026, so please head down to the section about this for more info.
Who controls the final switch?
During the transition period, a manager (such as a school or nursery admin) can decide when to make the permanent switch to the new design.
Once they do, all users in the account – educators and families – will move to the updated version.
If no manager makes the switch, we’ll set a switchover date for you and notify everyone in advance.
A phased rollout is starting from the 11th of February 2026, so please head to the ‘Permanent Move Over’ section of this FAQ for more information.
Will any of our data, settings, or preferences be lost in the move to the new look?
No, nothing will be lost. All your data — including accident forms, registers, and anything else you’ve added — will remain exactly as it is. That includes any data you need to retain for compliance purposes. Your preferences and settings will also stay the same. You won’t need to reconfigure anything.
Will my login details, PINs, and access levels stay the same?
Yes, absolutely. Your login details, PINs, and access levels will all carry over exactly as they are. You won’t need to reset anything — all user accounts will remain fully intact with no changes to how you access Tapestry.
Will this change how I use the site or app?
The layout has changed slightly, but the core features you use, like creating observations, sending and receiving invoices, and monitoring progress, work the same way. You don’t need to relearn anything.
Do I need to do anything to prepare?
We recommend exploring the new design – both in the browser version and on the new app – to get familiar with the updated layout.
If you haven’t already, download the new Tapestry – Childhood Education Platform app using the links below:
- Download the Tapestry app for Apple devices
- Download the Tapestry app for Android devices
- Download the Tapestry app for Amazon Fire devices
Finally, keep an eye out for internal messages in the browser version of Tapestry to find out when the switchover will happen. These will display on the browser version of Tapestry only.
What if we have more than one Tapestry account?
If you manage multiple Tapestry accounts, you’ll need to treat each one separately when switching to the new design. That means trialling or moving early must be done account by account. If you wait for the automatic switch, your accounts may be updated on different dates.
Will this affect my saved links or bookmarks?
No. Your saved bookmarks will continue to work as normal, and the website address (URL) isn’t changing.
If your school or setting uses a proxy or whitelist, there’s no need to make any changes or involve your IT team (except perhaps to download the new app).
Do I need to inform parents about the new app or the move to the new Tapestry look?
It’s always good practice to let families know about changes that may affect how they access Tapestry.
We have, however, also been in touch with parents and carers:
- We’ve sent all parents and carers with an active profile a service email explaining the release of the new Tapestry app and what this means, including that this is a separate app and that the old app will soon stop working.
- We have also shared information through an in-product announcement sent to all active parent and carer profiles to explain the rollout process.
We understand that not all families will see or read these messages, though. For this reason, we recommend that settings and schools also communicate directly with parents to ensure everyone is aware of the change.
Sending a Memo from Tapestry is a simple and effective way to do this. You can signpost families in your community to this page, particularly the downloadable guides and the FAQs.
The new Tapestry App
Is this update available on mobile too?
Yes! We’ve launched a brand-new app — Tapestry – Childhood Education Platform — to match the new design.
It’s a separate app, not an update to the current one, so you’ll need to download it from the App Store, Google Play, or Amazon Appstore.
We recommend downloading it as soon as possible so you can get familiar with the new layout.
What devices and operating systems does the new app need?
- iOS: 15.6 or higher
- Android: 8 or higher
- Amazon Fire: 7 or higher (please see note in the section below)
If you’re using:
- iOS 13–15.5: you’ll need to update to iOS 15+ to keep using Tapestry.
- iOS 12 or below (or if your device can’t update): you’ll need a newer device.
- Android 7 or below (or if your device can’t update): you’ll need a newer device.
- Amazon Fire device running on Android 7: Amazon Fire devices running on OS 7 on 9th–11th generation hardware can still download the app, but you may notice reduced performance. For the best experience, we recommend using OS 8 or higher on 12th-generation devices or newer.
Use our step-by-step guide to check whether your device is compatible with the new Tapestry app.
Why have the minimum requirements for the apps increased?
We know replacing working devices is a big ask, especially when budgets are already stretched. Please know this decision wasn’t taken lightly. Our aim is to keep Tapestry secure, reliable, and future-proof.
- Apple stopped supporting iOS 14 and below in 2021, which means those devices no longer receive security updates or protection against new threats.
- Google has also ended support for older versions of Android.
Because of this, apps like Tapestry cannot run safely or reliably on those systems.
This change is not about excluding older devices. It’s the direct result of Apple and Google ending support for them. We kept Tapestry working on older systems for as long as possible, but once they stop receiving security updates, we can no longer guarantee the safety of your data. In addition to this, older devices on older operating systems can’t run the modern web technologies we use now.
We understand how difficult this may be, and we’re truly sorry for the impact. Our priority is to protect your data and ensure Tapestry remains a dependable platform for years to come.
To make it a bit easier for you, we’ve put together a list of affordable device options.
How can I check if my device is compatible with the new app?
We’ve created a simple step-by-step guide to help you find out if your device can run the new Tapestry app.
This resources will guide you through:
- Checking what version of iOS or Android your device is running
- Confirming whether your device meets the minimum requirements
- Seeing if a software update is available
- Understanding what to do if your device can’t be updated
What is happening to the old app?
You can keep using the current Tapestry app for now — there’s no immediate disruption. However, it will no longer receive updates and can’t be installed on new devices.
The app will be retired and stop working by spring 2026.
To continue enjoying Tapestry without interruption, please download the new app as soon as possible.
Don’t worry — your data and login details will stay the same. You’re simply moving to a newer, more modern platform.
Do you have any resources to get familiar with the new app?
You can get an overview of the new app with our user guides for staff and parents.
You can also check out the new Tapestry app tutorials.
Will all my data remain when I move to the new app?
The permanent move to the new look
When will the rollout begin?
From the 11th of February, we’ll begin moving schools and settings over to the new look.
It will happen in small groups of accounts at a time over the coming weeks. This means your account may be included immediately, or a few weeks later, depending on when your batch is scheduled.
Please note that if you have profiles in multiple accounts, you might not see all accounts move over in the same week.
What will the rollout look like?
When the school or setting you log into is picked up to be moved, the process will look like this:
- All users in that account (managers, staff, and families) will be automatically logged into the new Tapestry look.
- During this first stage, you’ll still have the option to switch back to the previous look.
- A clear notification in your account will show everyone the date you will be moved permanently.
- A manager in the account can choose to move over sooner, but the date shown can’t be postponed.
- About a week later, your account will be moved fully to the new look. This is, you will no longer be able to switch back to the old version.
What if I have multiple profiles across several accounts?
As this is a phased rollout, it might be that not all of your accounts are picked up to be moved over at the same time.
If this is the case, you’ll see them move over as and when they are scheduled to do so.
What if I am not ready to move over?
During the initial roll over stage, you can switch back to the old look if needed. Managers can choose to switch to the new look sooner, but the scheduled date for permanent move cannot be postponed.
We encourage you to download and distribute the new look user guides to help make the transition smooth.
Who will this affect?
The rollout only affects accounts not already on the new Tapestry look. Accounts already using the new look will not be affected.
Will this affect my staff and families?
Yes; both the first stage where the account is automatically logged in to the new look, and the permanent move applies to everyone on the account, including managers, staff, and families.
We have created user guides to get everyone familiar and confident with the new look.
Where can I get help during the rollout?
You can visit our New Tapestry Look page (where you are at the moment!) for step-by-step guides and FAQs.
Our Customer Service team is also available to answer any questions or provide reassurance throughout the process.
New look troubleshooting
Where’s the control panel gone?
We’ve had a few questions about where tools have moved in the new design. To make things easier, we’ve put together a short video guide. It shows you how to:
- Find the relocated tools
- Fix a common display issue (when the menu panel won’t scroll)
The new look isn’t working in my browser—why?
This usually happens if your browser or device is out of date.
- Devices running iOS 15.6 or below, or Android 8 or below, can’t support the modern web technologies the new design uses.
- Apple and Google no longer update those systems, which means browsers on them can’t keep up with current standards.
What you can do:
- Update your browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) to the latest version.
- Check your device is running iOS 15.6+ or Android 8+. If not, update your operating system when possible.
- This guide talks you through how to check if your device is up to date
We know this can be frustrating, especially if your device feels like it should still work fine. But once Apple and Google end support for older systems, it becomes impossible for us to guarantee both security and reliability. Our goal is to make sure Tapestry remains safe and dependable on the devices you use every day.
Why can’t I find or download the new app on my device?
The app requires age verification before downloading. If your device hasn’t verified your age, the app may not appear in the store or allow download. You can fix this by verifying your age on your device. Follow the steps below based on your platform.
iOS:
- Open Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- If prompted, enter your Screen Time passcode.
- Tap Content Restrictions → Apps → select Allow All Apps or 17+ / 18+ as needed.
- Make sure your Apple ID date of birth shows that you’re 18+:
- Go to Settings → [your name] → Name, Phone Numbers, Email → Birthday.
- Restart the App Store and try downloading the app again.
Android:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile picture → Settings → Family → Parental controls.
- Disable Parental controls if it’s on, or change App & Games to Allow All.
- Go to Account → Personal info & privacy → Date of birth.
- Confirm or update your date of birth. Google will verify your age automatically.
- Restart the Play Store and search for the app again.
Amazon Fire:
- Open Settings → Parental Controls.
- If Parental Controls are ON, you’ll need to enter your PIN.
- Tap Profile & Family Library → select the adult profile.
- Ensure the date of birth shows you’re 18+.
- Go to the Amazon Appstore, refresh it, and search for the app again.
